Project Objectives
Xeni Gwet’in is dedicated to protecting and preserving the integrity of the land for the next generations to come. The community has a hybrid solar PV/diesel micro-grid system, currently operating to reduce diesel consumption by 50%, and has been conducting a feasibility study for a small hydropower project.
The project activities for IODI Phase 2 will include updating the latest community energy plan, hosting several community engagement sessions for community energy planning, collecting data on current energy use, and forecasted demand. Additionally, this project will produce a training plan to enable further capacity building and self-sufficiency by training community members to maintain and operate the electrical system. This will include arranging a clean energy introduction course, electrician training, operations and maintenance training, overhead and underground distribution line training, and a demand-side management course.
Expected Results
This project's expected results include updating the community energy & emissions plan, undertaking training and skills development, and hosting community engagement sessions.
