Project Objectives
The objective of this project is to capitalize on a synergetic relationship wherein biproducts from the Pulp & Paper industry can be used to remove the CO2 produced by the Pulp & Paper industry.
Expected Results
This project aims to:
- Develop CO2 capturing particles from lignin, a biproduct from the Pulp & Paper Industry and conduct a comprehensive life cycle assessment of the capture process within Canadian pulp mills to inform decision-making processes.
- Assist Canada in reaching its goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
- Provide the potential opportunity for medium to long-term sequestration of CO2 that is chemically bound to particles, enabling utilization in various applications such as concrete and asphalt formulation through CO2 absorption and regulated release.
