Project Objectives
Third generation renewable diesel is a clean, drop-in fuel made from lignocellulosic biomass rather than food products. The aim of this project is to design, build, and test a catalytic hydrotreating pilot plant (2 to 5 L/h) to produce 3rd generation renewable diesel using an innovative technology. The aim of the project is to optimize and validate the process at pilot scale, while gathering data to facilitate the further scale-up of the clean fuel production process.
Expected Results
This project aims to:
- Replace fossil diesel with renewable diesel in sectors that are difficult to electrify, such as mining and trucking. These two sectors represent a particular challenge in terms of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets, given the technological and logistical issues surrounding their electrification.
- Reduce the cost and increase the availability of sustainable diesel, facilitating the energy transition for Canadians.
