Project Objectives
The objective of this project is to lower GHG emissions at CRH’s Mississauga Cement plant by using Alternative Low Carbon Fuel (ALCF). The ACLF will be derived from biomass diverted from landfills as well as dewatered biosolids generated from wastewater treatment plants, it will replace the burning of coal/coke as thermal heat in the cement production process.
Expected Results
This project aims to:
- Decrease Canada’s CO2 emissions as fossil fuels are substituted with ALCF.
- Reduce demand on landfills by diverting certain waste streams to become feedstock.
- Lower emissions related to landfilling due to waste diversion.
- Contribute to the success of various waste programs targeting waste diversion and circularity.
- Establish enduring partnerships with Canadian equipment suppliers to facilitate the development, installation, and maintenance of the ALCF plant.
