Project Objectives
The primary goal of this project is to understand sub-surface injection and storage capabilities close to the emission source.
The project also seeks to determine the optimal pipeline routing and compression technology required to transport CO2 from the source to the injection point.
Expected Results
This project seeks to de-risk municipally-operated CCUS projects and enable the creation of a blue hydrogen hub, supported by the Southeast Alberta Hydrogen Task Force.
It also aims to help meet climate targets by capturing and storing up to 3 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year. This would contribute to reducing emissions levels by 40-45% below 2005 levels by 2030 and ultimately reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.
Additionally, it has the potential to position the region as a global supplier of clean petrochemicals. By utilizing existing infrastructure and supply chains, stakeholders can create new market opportunities for low carbon petrochemicals that may not be available otherwise.
