Nunatsiavut Government GREEN SOLUTION: Ambitious wind power project proposed for Nain, Labrador
Lead Proponent
Nunatsiavut Government
Project Objectives
The objective of this project is to complete a front end engineering and design (FEED) study for a hybrid renewable generation system in the remote diesel microgrid of Nain, Nunatsiavut.
This FEED study will look at the potential opportunities for the installation of a high-penetration wind/battery/diesel system in Nain, Nunatsiavut. The study will address power-purchase agreement negotiations, environmental assessment, permitting and detailed design of a potential demonstration project.
Expected Results
Results of this FEED study are expected to lead to a demonstration project to reduce the use of fossil fuels, resulting in lower greenhouse gas emissions and improved local air quality.
Along with improving the ability of stakeholders to deliver renewable energy and reduce local fuel consumption for this, and eventually other, northern and remote indigenous communities, there will also be socio-economic benefits for Nunatsiavut.
