Project Objectives
The objectives of this project are to complete a Front-end Engineering Design (FEED) study, in order to advance the design of the semi-closed-cycle (SCC) flue gas recirculation (FGR) and carbon capture system for a Solar Taurus 70 gas turbine generator package, deployed in a cogeneration setting (combined heat and power).
Strathcona Resources will also perform an evaluation and selection of the most appropriate carbon capture (CC) technology to pair with the SCC FGR technology.
Expected Results
The project expects to advance the industry’s knowledge of the Basal Sandstone Unit’s (BSU) reservoir characteristics as they pertain to suitability as a long-term CO2 disposal reservoir.
The project also expects to:
- play a critical role in de-risking the formation and advancing general CO2 disposal plans in the Cold Lake region;
- contribute to significantly reducing the capital intensity of CCS across multiples industries where gas turbines are used;
- enhance industry understanding of BSU’S CO2 disposal capabilities, specifically in the Cold Lake Region;
- reduce capture cost for low -concentration emission sources.
