Project Objectives
ArchTech Inc. is an Inuit-owned and operated business pursuing a phased approach to the construction of both a high-performance, energy-efficient residential building and commercial building in Baker Lake, NU. Following the construction of the residential building, the commercial building will include roof-top solar PV and serve as a youth centre delivering youth programming initiatives related to mental health, life skills, and cultural programming.
Expected Results
This project demonstrates the financial, social, and environmental benefits of constructing high-performance buildings in extreme Arctic environments. This project aims to address challenges associated with rising construction, operation, and maintenance costs by combining proven building science and design principles with advanced building materials, mechanical systems, and construction practices. This project will empower policymakers in making data-driven decisions regarding housing policy by providing objective financial and performance data related to the construction and operation of the project.
