FEED Study for HYGENERATOR – wellbore deployed hydrogen production tool
Lead Proponent: Proton Technologies Canada Inc.
Location: Calgary, AB
OGCT Contribution: $ 375,000
Project Total: $ 750,000
Strategic Area: Oil and Gas Clean Technology
Project Objectives:
The project’s objective is to develop clean energy technology by completing the Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) for a demonstration pilot of a new downhole tool for hydrogen production, the Hygenerator™.
This technology adapts commercial hydrogen selectivity membrane technology for downhole deployment in wellbores for in-situ hydrogen production by gasification.
Expected Results:
This new technology will generate interest in depleted or abandoned hydrocarbon resources, while building upon, and enhancing, the extensive knowledge base for in-situ gasification from the decades of investment by companies and government in the Canadian petroleum industry.
The results from this project will be integrated into a larger clean energy development project, which will generate clean hydrogen from hydrocarbon resources as an alternative energy source. This will in turn create high technology jobs while helping Canada to meet its commitments to lower carbon emissions.
