Project Objectives
The Kluane First Nation will install, own, operate and maintain three 100 kilowatt (kW) wind turbines in Destruction Bay, Yukon.
In order to capture the full wind power generation and to maintain a stable and reliable power grid, the utility will install, own, operate and maintain a 250kWh battery and energy management system.
Expected Results
The Destruction Bay Renewable Hybrid Diesel project will maximize renewable energy generation, minimize diesel consumption and ensure reliable power is supplied to the community when renewable energy sources are not available.
As local sustainable energy resources are utilized to replace diesel fuel for heat and power in northern and remote communities there will be associated economic, social and environmental benefits, including increased community energy literacy, revenue from energy production, local employment opportunities all while reducing local noise, greenhouse gas emissions and the potential for diesel spills.
All of the above will lead to more resilient Canadian communities.
