Project Objectives
Sakku Investments Corporation is the Development Corporation of the Kivalliq Inuit Association (KIA). Under the Nunavut Land Claim Agreement, KIA is a designated Inuit organization which represents the interests of all Inuit living in the Kivalliq Region. This project will develop two utility-scale solar and energy storage projects in each community, Coral Harbour and Naujaat. The first solar project will be 960kW with a 1000kWh battery storage. The second will be 1000kW with a 1000kWh battery. Additionally, this project will support an LED lighting campaign, a building and audit retrofit program, and a biomass pilot project.
Expected Results
Primary diesel reduction will begin once the solar projects are operational, currently projected for 2024/25. Diesel reduction will be primarily through the provision of renewably generated solar electricity, as well as secondary, smaller projects focused on energy efficiency and conservation. The anticipated diesel reduction per year is for each community is 360,000 L for Coral Harbour and 390,000 L for Naujaat.
