Project Objectives

The objective of this project is to scale Aurora’s microwave methane pyrolysis technology from bench to commercial scale. This technology is cost-competitive with steam methane reforming, does not consume water, and requires less electricity than other pyrolysis techniques.

Expected Results

This project aims to:

  1. Provide environmental benefits such as GHG emission reductions, clean hydrogen production and zero water consumption.
  2. Produce valuable carbon products.
  3. Support Canada’s energy sector sustainability and workforce resilience.
  4. Support Canada’s commitment to lower GHG emissions perf the Paris Agreement.
  5. Develop a scalable, clean and cost-effective hydrogen production technique to meet Canada’s future hydrogen demand.
  6. Create valuable graphite with versatile applications.
  7. Generate revenue, increase export sales, boost research and development, and encourage capital investment in Canadian technology.
  8. Cultivate highly qualified personnel and professional jobs.
