Emissions Reduction Fund – Onshore Program
Supporting Canada’s onshore oil and gas sector in reducing methane emissions
The ERF Onshore Program’s Intake 3 is now closed.
Key changes to Intake 3 included:
- The Program will only consider eligible projects that fully eliminate the intentional routine venting or flaring of methane;
- The Program will apply a cost per tonne threshold to ensure value for money;
- Applicants are required to provide information on minimum funding required;
- Applicants are required to provide information on how their proposed projects surpass regulatory requirements; and
- The repayability scale is revised.
The $675M Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF) – Onshore Program is helping Canadian onshore oil and gas companies invest in green solutions and infrastructure to continue their progress toward reducing methane emissions while facing the COVID-19 pandemic.
We are committed to working together to strengthen the sector’s environmental performance during this time.
While methane is a significant source of emissions in Canada’s oil and gas sector, it is one of the lowest cost emission reduction opportunities for the sector.
Reducing methane emissions is an important issue. It’s the air we breathe.
Tackling methane emissions has immediate climate and health benefits and supports the transition to a net-zero future.
The Government recently committed to an increased oil and gas methane emissions reduction target of at least a 75% by 2030.
Let’s work together to transition to a greener future.
- For Canadians it means jobs, better air quality and healthier environment
- For the Industry it means greener production, reduced costs, and increased global competitiveness
