Project Objectives

Délįnę Got’įnę Government (DGG) is an Indigenous public government in the Sahtu Region of the Northwest Territories (NWT) with constitutional authorities. The DGG is pursuing two clean-energy-objectives in their project. The installation of a 15 kW (AC) solar array on the rooftop of the community arena and identifying additional sites within the community for residential solar PV installations. The project includes a front-end engineering design (FEED) study for a hydrokinetic project near the mouth of the Great Bear River.

Expected Results

It is anticipated that the DGG’s project will reduce 10,000 litres of diesel per year from solar and a reduction of 780,000 litres of diesel per year from solar and hydro. The community goal is to relocate the central NTPC power plant to an industrial location away from bodies of water. The long term goal of the project is reinforce energy security in the community as remote locations are most vulnerable to rising costs in heating, electricity, groceries and transportation. Energy security can increase the socioeconomic wellbeing of the community.
