NRCan has not only enhanced its ability to create and disseminate knowledge about Canada’s natural resources but has also championed the inclusion of Knowledge Services in the Service Vision for Canadians. Through the GOL initiative, NRCan is revolutionizing how it delivers its programs to Canadians. Several initiatives have reached a level of significant maturity and sophistication on line allowing clients to use a wide range of interactive tools to receive customized information on-line. |

By 2002, complete a project in partnership with CIDA to build expertise in environmental regulation for the gold mining sector in Guyana. |
In 2003, it was reported that this project was extended. All surveys and research concerning mercury in fish and Aboriginal Guyanese are completed and have been presented at workshops. Codes of Practice, Environmental Guidelines, Limits and Regulations for the industry have been written and presented to the Guyana Ministry of Mines. Amerindian representatives have been trained as mine rangers and some have been selected to work for the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission. The University of Guyana has taken over the training and has added to its Curriculum a graduate program in Environmental Mining. The Guyana Miners Association has hired an environmental officer in order to promote best environmental practices for artisanal miners. This year is the 7th and last year of the project. |
