Energy Efficiency Regulations
Regulatory definition
Small electric motor, a machine that converts electrical power into rotational mechanical power and that:
- has a nominal output power of not less than 0.18 kW (0.25 horsepower) and not more than 2.2 kW (3 horsepower);
- is a NEMA design with a two-digit frame number or an IEC design with a frame number of 63 or 71;
- has a nominal frequency of 50/60 Hz or 60 Hz;
- has a two-, four- or six-pole construction
- operates using alternating current;
- is one of the following types, namely, capacitor-start capacitor-run, capacitor-start induction-run or polyphase;
- has an open construction;
- is rated for continuous duty or S1 operation;
- is designed to operate at a single speed; and
- is designed as a general purpose motor
Does not include:
- split-phase motor
- shaded pole motor, or
- permanent split-capacitor motor

CSA C747-09 or IEEE 112-2004, Test Method A

CSA C390-10 or IEEE 112-2004, Test Method B
Polyphase with normal output power > 0.75 kW (1 horsepower) but ≤ 2.2 kW (3 horsepower)

Capacitor start capacitor-run (CSCR) or Capacitor-start induction-run (CSIR)

Energy efficiency report requirements
- name of product
- brand name
- model number
- manufacturer
- name of the certification body or province whose verification mark will be on the product
- whether a mathematical model as defined in the Regulations was used to generate any of the information provided below
- nominal output power in kilowatts (horsepower)
- number of poles
- average full-load efficiency
- type (i.e. capacitor-start capacitor-run, capacity-start induction-run or polyphase)
