| Description | To support the development and demonstration of innovative Canadian technological solutions that address climate change, clean air, clean water and clean soil. This transfer payment program does not have repayable contributions. |
| Results achieved | A November 4, 2015, Order-in-Council designated the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) accountable to Parliament for the purposes of the Canada Foundation for Sustainable Development Technology Act. Previous to this, the Minister of Natural Resources was the designated Minister, and Natural Resources Canada and Environment and Climate Change Canada provided joint oversight of the Foundation. Federal oversight of SDTC was transferred to Innovation, Science and Economic Development in 2016. Results achieved will be reported in ISED’s 2016-17 Departmental Results Report (DRR). |

| Engagement of applicants and recipients | The SD Tech Fund is intended to benefit small and medium-sized sustainable development technology developers that are seeking financial assistance to further develop their technology toward commercialization. The Fund targets all major economic sectors in Canada and is national in scope. SDTC typically holds two rounds of funding each year, initially requesting Statements of Interest (SOI) from applicants. The application process takes about nine months to complete after the receipt of the SOI. The Foundation is expected to allocate new funding to projects until at least June 30, 2016. |

* The table does not reflect NRCan’s reduced financial resources resulting from the transfer of funds for this initiative to ISED. Until the transfer is complete, NRCan will continue to disburse funds from its reference levels toward both the SDTC’s NextGen Biofuels Fund and the SDTC Tech Fund. These disbursements will remain equally shared between NRCan and ECCC, with each department reporting its shares in its respective RPPs and DRRs.
