Project Objectives

The main objective of this project is to demonstrate a sharing economy model for electric vehicle (EV) chargers that enables the public use of home chargers, while mitigating the resulting grid impacts through real-time grid visibility and controls, and the use of localized energy storage.

Expected Results

The project will seek to understand and address the impact of residential EV charging on local distribution networks, as well as assess the potential of repurposing private home chargers by enabling public use to support growing EV adoption.

By improving EV charging accessibility and enabling greater EV adoption, this project will pave the way to cleaner transportation.  This platform will help ease the consumer transition to EV use, contribute to GHG emissions reductions and the effects of climate change by displacing fossil fuel vehicles, resulting in improved urban air quality.  Outcomes will also include greater charging accessibility for EV drivers, and enhanced grid efficiency.
