Project Objectives
The objective of this Project is to enhance the Lethbridge Electric Utility’s distribution network by deploying CVR software technology using Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) to conserve energy and reduce demand on the energy grid. The CVR software technology will use feedback information generated by the AMI system to systematically control the voltage on the distribution system. The CVR technology will be applied to 6 substations within the network.
Expected Results
This project will result in GHG emission reductions, energy conservation from grid optimization and reduced demand which will provide financial benefits for over 40,000 customers on the network.
Project Update
The project has been working with customers to select appropriate voltage set points to not interfere with their operations. Servers and licenses were upgraded to support full deployment. There was a reduction in all connected customer energy usage, leading to cost savings. A reduction in GHG emissions was also seen from reduced energy use due to efficiency gains from AMI enabled CVR.
