Main objective The objective of NRCan’s participant funding program is to encourage effective Indigenous participation and ensure that Indigenous concerns and interests are taken into consideration throughout the federal environmental process for major projects subject to a federal environmental assessment (EA) and regulatory review pursuant to the CEAA 2012 and the NEB Act.

Fiscal year of planned completion of next evaluation (if applicable) Although there is no mandatory requirement to evaluate the Indigenous Consultations Participant Funding Program, as per the 2016 Policy on Results, this initiative may be considered in the context of a broader evaluation of the MPMO-I, which will be completed in 2018.
General targeted recipient groups Indigenous groups (individual or a collective representing more than one Indigenous group) and validly incorporated or registered non-profit organizations (such as band councils) that participate in the EA and/or can demonstrate that they have interests in potential projects’ impacts on treaty lands, settlement lands or traditional territories and/or related claims and rights.
