This multidisciplinary research program involves the assessment of underground hydrogen storage scenarios such as salt caverns and depleted reservoirs. In collaboration with the Geological Survey of Canada, Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, National Research Council Canada, and research partners, research outcomes will be used to support policy development, monitoring approaches and Canadian hydrogen codes and standards.
Our areas of focus
Our research intends to:
- better understand the potential environmental impacts of hydrogen storage
- develop risk-based leak detection and monitoring approaches
- simulate the leakage and potential impacts of migrating hydrogen in the near-subsurface
