Project Objectives

The objective of this project is to complete a front end engineering and design (FEED) study for a hybrid renewable generation system in the remote diesel microgrid of Arviat, Nunavut. The study will address power-purchase agreement negotiations, environmental assessment, permitting, and detailed design prior to proceeding to the full demonstration project.

Expected Results

This FEED study will address outstanding design and regulatory issues and will ultimately lead to a demonstration project. The study will result in a first-of-kind power purchase agreement in Nunavut and will support the delivery of the first commercial power generation in the territory owned by an entity other than the utility. It will also be the first large scale power generation project in the territory with community ownership. In addition, the FEED study activities will help build capacity within the community to support project delivery.
