PEV-CIM

NEW:   PEV-CIM for Excel 2016 with updated databases (Canadian Version)
NEW:   PEV-CIM for Excel 2016 with updated databases (International Version)

The ‘Plug-in Electric Vehicle - Charge Impact Model’ (PEV-CIM) has been developed to investigate the impact that the charging of Plug-in Electric Vehicles (PEVs) will have on the future electricity grid and on emissions in Canada.

PEV-CIM is an easy-to-use software tool for utilities, fleet owners, governments, academics and others. PEV-CIM has four modes of operation, related to four different aspects of the integration of electric vehicles into the Canadian energy system:

  1. Grid Impact mode
Determine the impact of PEV charging on power generation capacity
  2. Fleet Comparison mode
Compare costs and emissions of PEVs, HEVs and Conventional Vehicles
  3. Emissions mode
Identify the emission reduction potential of PEVs
  4. Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) mode
Assess the potential for PEVs to supply power to the grid

PEV-CIM is a flexible tool that comes with extended databases for all major inputs, but also allows users to specify their own inputs. In the Canadian Version, the databases for information on electricity generation and associated emissions, vehicle fleet size and vehicle sales, and extreme summer and winter temperatures reflect the Canadian situation. The new International Version of PEV-CIM now allows users to also provide their own data for these databases.

The model can be used for simulation of all fleet sizes, from the evaluation of the impact of a single vehicle up to the aggregated effect of a large fleet of different vehicles following various driving and charging scenarios.

System requirements

PEV-CIM was developed under Microsoft Excel 2003 (Windows XP).
A customized version was made for use under Excel 2010 (Windows7).
New versions of PEV-CIM for Excel 2016 are now available.

The older versions have not been updated and are provided ‘as is’ for those users who cannot work with the newest versions.

For a proper operation of the software tool, the user MUST allow Excel to run macros (see below).
