Our Extractive Technologies research and development (R&D) focuses on improving the extraction of bitumen from surface-mined oil sand ore and in-situ (subsurface) reservoirs.
Our area of focus
CanmetENERGY Devon’s surface mining R&D activities focus upon ore and froth treatment, and non-aqueous bitumen extraction by:
- Creating strategies and processes to enhance hydrocarbon recovery
- Reducing the environmental impacts of bitumen froth treatment
- Developing non-aqueous bitumen extraction technologies
CanmetENERGY Devon’s in-situ extraction R&D activities focus upon steam-assisted gravity drainage, solvent and foam-assisted bitumen extraction. We seek to gain:
- Understanding to develop strategies and technologies to improve recovery processes while reducing environmental impacts during in-situ bitumen extraction
