2011 Survey of Household Energy Use (SHEU)

The 2011 Survey of Household Energy Use (SHEU–2011) was conducted as a joint project between Statistics Canada and Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). This survey provided an opportunity to collect detailed data on the energy consumption habits of households in Canada to be used by the Office of Energy Efficiency (OEE) at NRCan. The primary objective of SHEU–2011 was to gather information on energy use and the factors affecting energy use in households that reside in houses and residential buildings. More precisely, the survey collected information on:

  • dwelling characteristics
  • number and use of appliances, electronics and other energy-consuming products
  • energy efficiency characteristics
  • energy consumption

Note: Due to rounding, the numbers may not add up and may differ slightly among tables.

Legend: The letter beside each estimate classifies its quality as follows: A–Acceptable, M–Use with caution, U–Too unreliable to be published.
