Sustainable Jobs: Governor-in-Council information sessions
The Canadian Sustainable Jobs Act, which came into force in June 2024, facilitates and promotes economic growth, the creation of sustainable jobs and support for workers and communities in the shift to a low-carbon economy.
As part of this legislation, the government has committed to establishing a Sustainable Jobs Partnership Council. This Partnership Council will engage with Canadians, including stakeholder and partner groups and organizations most affected by the transition to a low-carbon economy, and will play a key role in influencing Government policy through the development of its independent advice to the Minister and government on sustainable jobs. The selection process to appoint Council members by the Governor in Council on a part-time basis for renewable terms of up to three years is expected to be launched shortly.
In preparation for this process, Natural Resources Canada is holding information sessions on the Partnership Council, its mandate and composition, and the Governor in Council appointments selection process. The Partnership Council is slated to include members who represent trade unions, Indigenous peoples, industry, an environmental non-government organization, and another key stakeholder group.
